Why a software engineer working across Cairo and UK time zones decided the Canada–Middle East talent gap was worth building a company around.
The same story shows up again and again in public: Toronto senior salaries running $80–130K, Upwork reviews describing freelancers who ghosted mid-project, recruiters charging 20–25% then disappearing on Day 1. Meanwhile, deeply capable Middle Eastern engineers were shipping for global enterprises. Working across Cairo and UK time zones, we could see both sides of that gap — and no Canadian-incorporated, fully managed partner built to bridge it. So we built one.
Anti-fraud verification, identity checks, assessment integrity — these exist because we'd seen the failure mode. Before a single cold email, we built the delivery stack: a custom Flutter application for talent sourcing, a Supabase-backed pipeline for vetting records, n8n workflows for automated onboarding, and AI-assisted scoring to rank candidates consistently. Obelisk was engineered to make the failure modes structurally impossible — not retrofitted from a spreadsheet.
Obelisk Talent Inc. is federally incorporated under the Canada Business Corporations Act, with its registered office in Nova Scotia and extra-provincial registration in Ontario. Canadian clients sign a Canadian contract governed by Canadian law and receive CAD invoices — no offshore workaround, no invoice translation.
The talent side opened first: we recruit from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and the wider Middle East. The client side runs on founder-led outreach: every first call is with a co-founder directly, every brief is read by a human engineer, and every match is signed off before it reaches a client shortlist.
